Spontaneous neoplastic and proliferative findings in laboratory beagle dogs: 11 cases (2014-2024)

23 Sep 2025

Joint BSTP/ESTP Toxicologic Pathology Congress 2025 -- Literature describing spontaneous neoplasia and proliferative findings in the laboratory-kept beagle dog is scarce and limited to case reports describing the occurrence of single tumours, with no historical data on the incidence of neoplasms available. The INHAND (International Harmonization of Nomenclature and Diagnostic Criteria) Proliferative and Non-Proliferative Lesions of the Dog manuscript lists all neoplasms as uncommon, with commentary typically stating they are either rare or extremely rare. The authors describe here the incidence of spontaneous neoplasms and proliferative findings in control beagle dogs kept in a research facility over a 10-year interval and their occurrence in test article treated beagle dogs for the same time interval.
