Comparison of spontaneous blood vessel tumors in different strains of rats from subchronic, chronic and carcinogenicity studies
23 Sep 2025
Joint BSTP/ESTP Toxicologic Pathology Congress 2025 -- Vascular tumors have been reported for control rats from 104-week studies, but reports were not found for 13- or 26-week studies; in 104-week studies, occurrence ranged from rare to common depending on the strain. This poster compares the incidence of spontaneous blood vessel tumors in three rat strains (Wistar Han, Hsd:Sprague Dawley and Crl:CD Sprague Dawley) from 13-, 26- and 104-week toxicity studies as tumor incidences are important considerations when interpreting histopathologic data and useful when selecting a suitable animal model, especially for drugs with potential tumorigenic effects.
